| “ | Why shouldn't I? Humans have been nature's dominant predators since the beginning of time... and this is the closest I will ever get to hunting you. So long, bear. | ” |
| ~ Agent Trout revealing his true nature to Grizz - his most infamous quote. |
Agent Buck Trout is the overarching antagonist of Cartoon Network's We Bare Bears franchise.
Trout is a corrupt government agent and the commander of National Wildlife Control, desiring to restore the "natural order" for the world if it all means segregating the three bears, as well as targeting and imprisoning dozens of other innocents bears who never even endangered other people nor have they committed any wrongdoings, all just to basically succeed an excuse into bring benefit into his life of performing virtually whatever he wants out of sheer pleasure. He is the former boss of Officer Murphy, and serves as the arch-nemesis of Grizz, along with both of the latter's brothers, Panda and Ice Bear.
He was voiced by Marc Evan Jackson and by Kenjiro Tsuda in the Japanese dub.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- Agent Trout is the most powerful and resourceful character in the series due to being the head of the National Wildlife Control Center, having authority over dozens of men (such as his fellow henchmen), as well as possessing the power to brainwash the public, as shown by doing so in court with his presentation focusing on "natural order," as well as having access to physical resources as well, such as a shock rod.
- Due to being the reason other bears were often absent in the series aside from the main protagonists (Grizz, Panda and Ice Bear) since he captured and abused dozens of them, Trout is the most influential character in the series.
- He has a genius-level intelligence and genuine charisma, with him being able to brainwash the public in favor of sending bears back to the wild under the guise of noble intentions, despite the truth being that he was just a spiteful and racist egotist who is "afraid of what's different and not what's right," as said by Grizz to his face.
- Despite being an expert human supremacist who claims that he is performing his actions and using the authorities to maintain the "natural order" by whatever means necessary, it is out of malevolent egotism and xenophobia rather than genuine extremism, and he only makes usage of it as an excuse to bring justification for his actions and bring benefit into his life in performing whatever he wants, even if it means capturing and abusing several bears for sports and pleasure.
- He is the most heinous character in the entire show due to capturing and abusing innocent bears for presumably years and going as far as attempting to leave them all behind to burn to death in a forest fire that he indirectly caused, unlike almost all of the other villains in the series.
- He is a bad boss even to his own reinforcements and Officer Murphy, since he is willing to abuse them to no ends, only using them as expendable pawns to achieve his own goals.
- Unlike almost all of the other villains from We Bare Bears, Trout virtually lacks redeeming and comedic qualities, and his crimes are taken virtually seriously. Even his few comedic moments, like wondering how the bears will pay for a lawyer in honey or stating that the trio's stacking is the worst thing, is only chucklesome to the audience; thus, in grand scheme, those moments merely emphasize his cruelty and overall nature.
- While his defeat is somewhat comedic as well since it depicts him being simultaneously punched in the face and having a donut shoved in his mouth by Officer Murphy (just like how Trout has been doing so to Murphy repeatedly), it is played more for satisfaction than chuckles, as it not only means the bears would all be safe from Trout, but also means that Officer Murphy is able to stand up to the man that has been abusing him at last and Trout got deserved karma at the end.
