NOTE: Aleksei Bessolov is a character that appears ONLY in the Metro novels, which is considered a separate continuity from the Metro game series canon.

Aleksei Feliksovich Bessolov is the main antagonist of the Metro franchise. He serves as the unseen overarching antagonist of the novels Metro 2033 and Metro 2034, the main antagonist of Metro 2035 and the overarching antagonist of the overall series.

Bessolov is the leader of the Invisible Watchers, the remnants of the Russian Government, as well as the true creator and leader of the four Moscow Metro factions. He uses his shadowy influence and power as the organisation's leader to manipulate the Moscow Metro's citizens, as well as the factions' leaders all for the sake of population control. Due to this, he is majorly responsible for the events that transpired throughout the series.

Actions and Characteristics[]

  • Being the high-ranking leader of the Invisible Watchers, Bessolov uses his own power to manipulate the lives of Moscow Metro's residents, under the primary purpose of controlling them within the shadows through propaganda.
  • He is, without a doubt, the most dangerous and influential villain of the Metro novels, despite being a complete far cry to more violent villains in the franchise like Korbut and Klim. This is due to his status as the series' shadowy wirepuller and the true creator of Hanza, Fourth Reich, Spartan Rangers and Red Line, where he uses them as pawns to his own endgame by manipulating its leaders into forcing at war with each other. The Battle of D6 wouldn't even happen in the first place had he never existed within the proverbial picture of the series.
  • He is shown to be a skilled manipulator, as such when he was able to make Aleksei "Lyokha" Zvonariov, Artyom's own companion, turn against his former friend to join the Invisible Watchers. The other utmost example comes from his ability to manipulate the citizens of Moscow Metro into his series of propagandas, where he was able to make them believe about the "war" that is "currently happening above the surface", when in reality it is no longer even a thing, but only used it as means to make the Metro's residents kept in the dark regarding life above the surface.
  • His dangerous wits and his sharp mind makes up for his non-violence, where he manages to make the Moscow Metro's residents turn against Artyom and later Anna at the end of 2035, where none of them believe both their truths regarding life above the surface, which also included Homer turning against Artyom who refused to help him out.
