Big Brother is the overarching antagonist of George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty Four (also spelt 1984) and its movie adaptation. He is the leader of INGSOC and the dictator of oceania
Actions and Characteristics[]
- He is the leader of the party INGSOC and the leader of Oceania, which rules over a large portion of the world, including England, Ireland, north and South America, Australia and New Zealand, and parts of South Africa.
- He had presumably started a global war, fighting over the contested territories with East Asia and Eurasia, which seems to be still ongoing.
- He established an oppressive governmental system in which all human rights are stripped from people, being under constant surveillance and brainwashed people using propaganda, even banning people from free thinking and having them labelled as "thought criminals"
- He had founded the ministry of peace, plenty, love, truth and is essentially behind all of the propaganda and torture, murder and presumably war and starvation in the story.
- Whilst never appearing, his presence is felt through the movie, with his face being everywhere including on telescreen, with the phrase "Big Brother is Watching"
- He has control over a massive military and a large chunk of the world, including multiple continents and has a cult like devotion from INGSOC, making him the most powerful and influential villain in the story.
- He is clearly the greater scope villain of the story, essentially being behind everything that happens in the story.
