Cosmos is a major antagonist in IDW's My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic series, serving as the main antagonist of the story arc of the same name. She is a cosmic being and former lover of Discord, who is bent on regaining all of her lost power and taking over Equestria for herself. While initially thought to be a chaotic being similar to Discord throughout the arc, it is revealed towards the end that she is actually the personification of malice instead.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- She is one of the most heinous villainesses in the whole MLP: FIM series to come out. Unlike other villains who want to rule Equestria or seek power for a reason, Cosmos wants to make fear, pain, and chaos just for her own good entertainment. Her atrocities include arson on an orphanage with kids inside, attempting to kill Celestia and Luna, transforming ponies into beasts fully aware of their suffering, and creating a horrific "hellscape" in Equestria. Unlike with other villains such Legion of Doom, Queen Chrysalis, and King Sombra, she lacks any fridge horror and all her crimes and actions are explored enough and given enough impact on the characters. This is evident, as she nearly tearing apart the fabric of reality, proving herself to be far more heinous than other villains, and the most dangerous and evil force in the series.
- She has the most influence of all the villains in the whole MLP: FIM series, manipulating not only her enemies but also those closest to her. She treats Discord, a very powerful being of chaos himself, as nothing more than a pawn. She has the powers of possession, through which she is capable of taking control of more than one powerful being at a time, from Twilight Sparkle to royal princesses, turning them against their loved ones in order to further control them. Her influence is so pervasive that even in a universe of powerful beings, she subverts their autonomy, making them instruments of her cruelty. She was also responsible for permanently altering the Everfree Forest into the way it is. It stays like that even after her defeat. Her also nearly tearing reality apart, do demonstrate significant influence within her story. She is also the entire reason for why Discord was perceived as a threat because he took the blame for her actions.
- She stand out as the most powerful villainess the heroes have ever faced, since her power soars above any other character in Friendship is Magic, making her nearly invulnerable. She wields vast magical powers, including reality warping, elemental control, life manipulation, and powerful transformations—all of them she uses with violent intensity. Her reality warping abilities let her reshape all of Equestria on a whim, and her destructive powers were so strong that they almost ripped the fabric of reality apart. Even Discord, the Spirit of Chaos, could not counter her alone. Her terrifying transformation into an even more powerful fusion with the princesses and other possessed beings makes her virtually invincible. She was only overpowered after she was stripped of all of her magic.
- Although she does have some comedic moments, they only show how sadistic and malicious she is. She is still taken the most seriously in comparison to every other MLP: FIM villains in the series.
