~ Dio after seemingly killed Jotaro. |
Dio Brando is the main antagonist of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise.
In Japanese, he is voiced by Isshin Chiba in Heritage for the Future, Hikaru Midorikawa in the Phantom Blood video game, Nobuo Tanaka in the 1993 OVA, Norio Wakamoto in the CD Drama and Takehito Koyasu in the anime and all other appearances. In English, he is voiced by Andrew Chaikin in the 1993 OVA and Patrick Seitz in the anime.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- He is the most heinous character in the series, being the first to torment the Joestar family and continuing to do so non-stop. Unlike other characters, there is little that Dio does beyond antagonizing people for the sake of his own ego and he takes sadistic pleasure in letting people die. When he is transformed into a vampire, it affects nothing about his personality and only allows him to act on his impulses more freely than if he remained human.
- He is the most influential, being responsible for many installments happening in the first place solely because of his greed and desire for godhood. He is responsible for the events of the entire franchise, and is the arch-enemy of the Joestar lineage. Even when he is dead, he either has his abilities or his underlings to carry on his evil goals for him, and the various deaths he causes backs up many character arcs; this includes Joseph's arc, as he also ended up killing Lisa Lisa's original mother, which led to Lisa Lisa eventually becoming Joseph's mother. Dio is also the strongest and most unrelenting of the series' antagonists, having multiple abilities at hand, making him a constant threat to the Joestar family - and, additionally, the rest of humanity.
- He is the most evil, as he kills anyone who dares to cross him with no remorse and only cares about himself. While he has a tragic background, cared for his mother at one point, and given an opportunity to show a side to himself that is redeemable, he only shows himself to be far past it.
