Dr. Steve “Nefie” Nefarious is the main antagonist of PlayStation’s second full-length animated film, Ratchet and Clank, as well as the main antagonist of it’s tie-in video game on PlayStation 4. Much like his original video game counterpart, he is an unstable mad scientist. However unlike the original incarnation, this version is more evil and taken more seriously as he wanted to destroy the entire solar system out of spite to get revenge on the Galactic Rangers, while lacking the redeeming qualities of his main counterpart.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- He is easily the most evil character in the movie and the video game, wanting to blow up an entire solar system of planets in order to make the Galactic Rangers look incompetent due to Qwark's mistreatment of him, uncaring of the billions of lives that would have been lost and even being willing to die himself if it meant for the plan to succeed. He lacks any of the redeeming qualities that his main counterpart had and while he is the subject of a few jokes, is taken very seriously as a threat with his destruction of Novalis being treated with actual horror as opposed to being played for laughs.
- He is the one responsible for the stories events, due to creating the Deplanetizer and all of Drek's warbots so he can destroy planets and take pieces from them to create his own perfect world for his race. He also betrays Drek and kills Drek near the end of the film, before moving onto the last step of his plan to destroy the solar system, making him the true big bad of the story.
- The gap is small, but Nefarious is shown to be more powerful then the other villains, having access to his own robot designed for battling and being capable of creating enough robots and weapons for an entire army, making him a more dangerous threat. He's also the most challenging boss fight in the video game, with him requiring multiple powerful attacks to be defeated and careful strategy without the use of the RYNO.
- He's highly intelligent with his ability to create multiple highly advanced weapons and robots, being able to manipulate Drek for his own goals throughout the entire movie/video game before betraying him, creating the Deplanetizer to destroy planets in a single strike and coming up with the plan to destroy Umbris, knowing that the huge explosion caused by it will cause a chain reaction to destroy a whole solar system in one fell swoop. He also had the knowledge of using the sun's energy as a way of recharging his robot in battle.
