Dr. Frederick Vought is one of the two overarching antagonists alongside Stan Edgar of the 2019 Amazon adaptation of the comic book, The Boys.
He was a former head geneticist and Chief Physician appointed by Adolf Hitler himself, as well as the founder of Vought America, who while despite being unseen for the rest of the show, his actions of creating Compound V leads to the creation of the Supes, such as Homelander, kick-starting the events of The Boys and Gen V.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- Even before becoming the founder of Vought International, Frederick was appointed as head physician of Dachau by Adolf Hitler himself and created Compound V, which he used on various prison inmates for his goal of created a race of super soldiers to take over the world and cleanse it of so-called "inferior races."
- He is one of the most powerful and resourceful villains due to being a chief physician, which gives him access to the medical staff of the prison he has, being able to create Compound V, which gives people superpowers and being the true founder of Vought allowing him to have complete control over it giving him the most wealth and resources out of anyone in the series.
- He is one of the most evil and intelligent characters of the whole series. He is a remorseless and devious Nazi scientist that experimented on countless prison inmates to turn them into superheroes, even his own wife for the sole purpose of creating a race of super soldiers to wipe out most races and take over the world for the sake of spreading Nazism. It is also revealed that Vought planned on creating the Supes was to create a white supremacist ideology within America. He is also responsible for the emotional turmoil and pain most of the main cast of The Boys endures due to the creation of the Supes through Homelander and Indira Shetty. He also as well lacks any remorse or empathy for his crimes and actions, and proves to be more evil than Homelander and Indira Shetty due to lacking an excuse for his actions or almost any sympathetic qualities, only doing it for the sake and superiority of the Aryan race, he also shows an astounding intellect, due to earning a doctorate in genetics at a young age, from Munich, which was even enough to get Adolf Hitler to appoint him chief physician. He is also smart enough to create Compound V, a substance which turns people into superheroes and managed to get away with his Nazi war crimes and feigning loyalty to US so he could enact his plan that would turn the nation into a carbon copy of Nazi Germany.
- While Frederick genuinely loved Stormfront, it is a minor redeeming quality and doesn't make him any less heinous.
- He is symbolic due to representing one of America's icons on the same level as Disney and Thomas Edison and as well as being represented as the creator of the Supes and Vought International. He has become a cultural icon in universe by now thanks to his creation of Compound V and Vought America presents him as a symbol of the Supes and America.
- Overall, Frederick Vought is the Greater Scope Villain of The Boys. Due to the fact that he is responsible for the creation of Compound V, which would lead to the creation of the Supes, including Homelander and Stormfront, making him the one responsible for their atrocities. Not to mention that he is the true founder of Vought, which makes him responsible for Stan Edgar’s and the rest of his subordinates actions due to carrying on his legacy. All the deplorable actions that Homelander, Stormfront, and Indira Shetty commit are all a result of his actions due to creating all the superheroes we see in The Boys universe. Not to mention that even after his death Stormfront would continue his legacy of turning America into Nazi Germany, which would cause many crimes that he himself is responsible for.
