Now that I'm here, let's get this party started! Welcome to MY Underworld, Pitty Pat! And you too, Pretty Palutena! So this little angel took down big, bad Medusa all by himself? What an accomplishment! Goodness, you should put this on your resume. But before you do, you should know that I whipped up that Medusa especially for you. Add a pinch of memories to a ton of souls. Put them in a blender and hit frappe! Her thirst for revenge was so great it seemed a shame to let it go to waste. Oh Pretty Palutena...you must have done a real number on her. But she's old news, and old news bores me. We must look to the future, and that future is me; the true leader of the Underworld! Next to me, little miss Medusa is going to look like a sweet, cuddly bunny! I must bid you adieu.
~ Hades introducing himself.

Hades, also known as the God of Evil, is the overarching antagonist of the Kid Icarus video game series.

He is a malevolent god who reigns supreme over the dark and desolate Underworld. His insatiable thirst for domination knows no bounds, as he plots to conquer all of creation. It has been unveiled that he was the mastermind behind the initial sequence of events and was the driving force behind the resurrection of the fearsome Medusa, whom he intended to utilize as a mere pawn in his wicked machinations.

He was voiced by Hōchū Ōtsuka in Japanese and S. Scott Bullock in English.

Actions and Characteristics[]

  • He is without a doubt one of the most heinous and influential villains in the entire franchise, which include:
    • He is directly responsible for reinstating Medusa, an already criminal creature, to commit further crimes, including attempted genocide against humanity. That act alone showed his blatant disregard for human life and readiness to destroy on the mass scale to get what he wants.
    • Framed as an "accident," Hades shows no remorse for the fact that he has killed a child's parents, a show of his utter indifference toward human suffering. This, in turn, would further his heinousness, suggesting that even accidents leading to tragic consequences would mean absolutely nothing to him.
    • His sadism extends to the level where, upon finding the fake wishing seed, he had plans for its use in provoking a war among human beings, in the hope that this would lead to their extinction. He perceives humanity as no more than a means toward feeding his powers and is thus a great threat to civilization.
    • Hades's war against the Forces of Nature, led by Viridi, is a result of his will to dominate. This rather highlights his lecherous nature toward taking control-not only of mere mortals but even of the gods themselves. His whole selfish desire for power urges him to make the universe eventually burst into flames.
    • The possession of Chaos Kin on Palutena urged him to tease her, even to suggest Pit kill her, and this cruel but manipulative trait truly highlights his sadistic pleasure in others' pains and sufferings-even other gods at that.
    • His ultimate desire to drink in the souls of the dead to gain unparalleled power makes him a threat that encompasses all existence. This thrust for mastery over both Earth and Heaven places him in that category of villainy whose ambition is beyond control, as it reaches into the cosmos.
    • However, in taking their souls, Hade4s denies them passage on or rebirth. It is absolute mercilessness to life in the afterworld, making them no better than pawns in his grotesque game. How much he tries to kill Dark Pit upon coming to revive Pit shows just how Hades will not let anyone threaten him for long. He even eats Pit up and tries killing him inside his body.
    • Hades jokes to himself about being "heartless," fully aware of his nefarious actions and having zero remorse. This self-awareness cements him as an absolute, irredeemable evil force.
    • When Medusa tries to win her freedom, Hades kills her, showing that even other gods are disposable means to him. He does not value allies or foes and sends them away with absolutely no problem.
  • He is one of the most powerful Kid Icarus characters, with Hades being almost unrivaled in raw power, rivaled only by Dyntos, god of the forge. Hades' being able to destroy the Three Sacred Treasures with a casual blast wave via a burp showcases his unfathomable level of power. He even seriously damages the Great Sacred Treasure in one strike, proving his capacity to destroy even the most powerful divine artifacts. Being bisected or beheaded does not slow Hades down; he regrows, making him practically indestructible. His immortality is linked with his role as a ruler in the Underworld, where he is able to persist even after any injury. Despite being this big, he manages to rival the speed of light, keeping pace with other powerful artifacts, for example, the Great Sacred Treasure. In this way, he is way more than just a tank-an incredibly agile fighter because of his speed. He can summon tornadoes and other disasters with a flick of his wrist and also shoot massive energy beams from his hands and eyes that destroy everything that stands in their way. Besides his magical skills, Hades is an immense warrior; it is for this reason that he can tear into pieces Medusa because of raw strength and knock her cold with just one punch. Of all of the things that Hades is capable of, it would seem as though control over the spirits of the dead is arguably his greatest ability. He can reshape and mould them into his army at will while his own powers continue to grow in number and strength, shaping and changing the Underworld to his whims. Not only does it make him stronger by consuming souls, but rather it actually condemns those souls to servitude for eternity.
