Humans desired reasons. Reasons for pain. Reasons for sadness. Reasons for life. Reasons for death. Reasons why their lives were filled with suffering. Reasons why their deaths were absurd. They wanted reasons for the destiny that kept transcending their knowledge. And I produce those, as it is what I have been brought into existence for.
~ Idea of Evil

The Idea of Evil, also known as God, is the overarching antagonist of the Berserk franchise. It is an ancient being which resides in the deepest part of the Astral World, the Abyss, weaving its web of causality. The Idea's influence is mostly indirect and accomplished through the use of agents such as the God Hand and the apostles. While appointing Griffith as the fifth God Hand, it admitted manipulating events surrounding Griffith's ancestry and throughout his life to bring him to that point.

Action and Characteristics[]

  • It is an ancient evil that has existed since the dawn of humanity born from its desire to explain all the terrible events happening. Since the beginning, it has been influencing humanity and bringing about many evils and catastrophes. Its existence also predates the existence of the God Hand and the Apostles.
  • It is the most influential villain to come out of the series. With it being directly behind the creation of God Hand and the evil actions that the group has caused for centuries. It has the power to give the God Hand the immense powers that they possess to also influence causality and lead the Apostles.
  • It is extremely powerful, arguably more powerful than Void, and by far the most powerful entity to appear in the series. Unlike the rest of the member of God Hand, it has full control over the causality and fate, allowing it to manipulate events across different timelines, making it a universe-level threat.
  • It is one of the most dangerous beings in the series with no reservations to cause as much damage as possible, making it seemingly invincible.
