Why create, when it will only be destroyed? Why cling to life, knowing that you have to die?
~ Kefka Palazzo
Read-my-lips-mercy is for wimps! There is a reason why "oppose" rhymes with "dispose"....If they get in your way, kill them!
~ Kefka Palazzo as he was marching with his soldiers to Figaro Castle

Kefka Palazzo (also spelled as Cefca Palazzo in the Japanese Version), also known as Lord Kefka/Cefca and Master Kefka/Cefca is the main antagonist of Final Fantasy VI (also known as Final Fantasy III on both the SNES and Wii.) He is the former court mage of Emperor Gestahl of the Gestahllian Empire, who originally had aided his master into creating a world that has magitek people as the dominant beings in the world. He then overthrows him and decides to become the God of Magic and destroy all life, hopes, and dreams as well as all meaning, seeking to create a monument to non-existence. He is also told to be the leader and founder of the namesake secret society known as the Cult of Kefka.

In the Japanese language spin-offs, he was voiced by Shigeru Chiba and Dave Wittenberg in the English spin-offs.

Actions and Characteristics[]

  • Although he did start off as a minor threat and considered just another one of Emperor Gestahl's lackies, he was revealed to be the first magitek knight to be created, had the most brutality out of anybody in the army, and had grown more serious over the course of the story.
  • While the botched magitek experiment drove him insane and corrupted his mind, Kefka still has moral agency.
  • He was the most influential villain as for Emperor Gestahl, he had little to no scene of being evil other than telling the party his plan for world domination and making individuals with magic be the dominant race out of all in the world. This includes: Putting the slave crown on Terra to kill many of her soldiers, poisoning the water supplies of the Kingdom of Doma, leaving only Cyan as the only survivor, having Celes come back to Emperor Gestahl as well as force her to murder her friends, burning Figaro Castle to get back at Edgar and this also somewhat affected Sabin as well, participating in the destruction of Kohlingen and Rachel's death which made Locke into the person he slowly becomes, some changes within General Leo through a few dialogues, and so on.
  • He absorbs so many Espers both in the factory and in the raid of Thamasa so he may gain even more power than he already has. This allows him to kill General Leo when he had enough with Kefka's behavior.
  • Betrays Emperor Gestahl and disrupts the balance of the world by pushing the stones of the Warring Triad in different places in which they should not have. This is the exact reason why not only the world got destroyed (mostly), but new monsters started roaming around and killed who knows how many people.
  • At this point, he had become the founder of a villainous community called The Cult of Kefka, seeking to reshape the whole universe in their image.
  • Not only does he achieve an extremely powerful and deadly power called Light of Judgement (which vaporizes uncountable number of innocent lives during his reign on the world), but he also manages to become the God of Magic.
  • When the heroes confront him, he states he will destroy everything and create a "monument to non-existence”, indicating that he will destroy all of reality.
  • Even after his death, nobody was able to use magic again because Kefka had ruled over the concept and existence of magic at that time, so should he die, so would magic.
  • While it is true that Emperor Gestahl is Kefka's master, two things:
    • 1. Emperor Gestahl has lesser screen time than Kefka does throughout the story of Final Fantasy 6.
    • 2. Kefka had overthrew him after Celes had refused to execute her friends while on top of the Floating Continent. Thus, making Kefka stand out more.
  • While one would argue the Warring Triad; Goddess (Megami), Fiend (Majin), and Demon (Kishin), had much influence in the beginning, they are no longer a threat to the story and Kefka at this point has strength that is either considered equally strong or outmatches the three. Either way, Kefka would still stand out as the Warring Triad also did not have much screen time.
