~ Porky Minch reveals what he wants in Mother 3. |
Porky Minch is one of the two main antagonists of the Mother/Earthbound game series, serving as the secondary antagonist of EarthBound/Mother 2 and the main antagonist of Mother 3. He debuted as Ness's neighboor, but later became the right-hand man of Giygas, before founding the Pigmask Army, consisting of brainwashed people from numerous timelines he has kidnapped.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- Even in Mother 2/EarthBound, he is arguably the true mastermind behind the events as when he sided himself with Giygas and his attempt at world domination, it is left ambiguous as to whether or not Porky was truly serving as Gigyas's right-hand man and not actually the one in control, given he released Giygas from the Devil's Machine which was keeping his sanity intact.
- Despite being a mere human, he stands alongside Giygas as the most resourceful character by the time of Mother 3. Having unlocked time travel abilities, he has been able to influence thousands of years of history while also kidnapping several people to serve as his Pigmask army, Dr. Andonuts to invent for him and had his scientists transform animals into hostile chimeras. He has become the tyrannical ruler of the Nowhere Islands and brainwashed nearly every civilian into serving him.
- While he may have had slight redeeming qualities in EarthBound, by the time of Mother 3, he stands out as the most irredeemably evil character in the franchise, especially compared to Giygas (who has undergone genuine tragedy, cared for his adoptive mother, honored Ninten, refused to destroy Earth when being reminded of his mother and later had huge moral agency issues after consuming the Apple of Enlightment.) Meanwhile, Porky is a human with free moral agency and is a totally despicable maniac, who wants to destroy everything for fun.
- While he suffered from parental abuse, he far passes that excuse because:
- His brother suffered abuse from their parents too, but never turned into a monster like Porky.
- He took his anger out on those who had nothing to do with his tragedy.
- Later on, he stated that he's driven by boredom of being immortal and wished to destroy everyone who doesn't like him.
- His care for Ness is shown to be spiteful and envious at best and he is willing to kill him multiple times, making their friendship seem disingenuous.
- While he suffered from parental abuse, he far passes that excuse because:
- All of his horrific actions in Mother 3 are the reason for its infamous dark and emotional setting. This includes turning animals into hostile chimeras (one of whom is responsible for killing Lucas's mother, Hinawa), turning Lucas's brother into his mindless robotic slave, transforming Tazmily into a totalitarianistic society to serve him with the threat of his Pigmask Army, putting people in tubes to force them to love him and last but not least attempting to destroy the world for fun.

Trivia[]
- His novelization counterpart does not count as TUE, since that version is presented as genuinely tragic and sympathetic and with moral agency issues, not to mention he redeems himself and becomes a full-on Pure Good.
