Proximus Caesar is the main antagonist of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the fourth entry in the reboot series for The Planet of the Apes franchise.
Proximus was portrayed by Kevin Durand.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- While he is lacking in visceral deeds such as with Koba or Colonel McCullough, Proximus out scales them in quantity. While McCullough imprisoned hundreds of apes in War for the Planet of the Apes, Proximus has him beat with the thousands of apes he had enslaved after demolishing their colonies. He is also indirectly responsible for the mass slaughter of Mae's group of humans and wants access to the vault so that he could use the weapons within to further bring humanity to the brink of extinction out of paranoia that they would endanger his rise to power. He also routinely sacrifices apes by forcing them to open the door to the vault only to remorselessly bring more apes the next day in the event that the original apes failed to open the vault.
- Proximus is very manipulative and charismatic. He abominates the words of the original Caesar to justify his subjugation of the apes and eventually convinces Noa to realize that humans were crafty and not to be trusted as evidenced by Mae taking advantage of Noa's kindness for her.
- Proximus has the most influence of the antagonists in the reboot series with a huge amount of slave labor and soldiers and was able to use the full extent of his force to conquer dozens of ape colonies.
- Promixous is the most unforgivably vile villain in the entire film series, given his history of being a tyrannical dictator who has terrorized the rest of the ape colonies by enslaving innocent apes and sacrificing them all, having some personal villainy towards Noa by killing her family, and nearly killing off the rest of the cast and trying to open the vault to wipe out the rest of the humans, all without any remorse or empathy for his actions. While it is true that Koba and Colonel McCollugh have done worse, Koba is a tragic and sympathetic character and McCollough has some twisted but well-meaning and sympathetic qualities and intentions for his crimes, as while Proximus has none of these redeeming qualities or well-intentions and while he does take Ceaser’s name and as well as his beliefs, it’s mostly out of pure fanaticism and is shown to be very twisted and ruthless than his benevolent predecessor and as well as disgracing his name due to the vile crimes he commits to his own kind, even being willing to kill them without remorse, showing that despite taking his title, he’s shown to be nothing more than a delusional tyrant seeking to seize ultimate power no matter what cost comes present. He’s even far worse than Steven Jacob’s, who was already a abusive and sadistic animal abuser who’s directly responsible for Koba’s villainy and the rest of mankind’s destruction. The closest thing we have to a Pure Evil prevention is his friendship with fellow human Treventhan, but even than, his relationship with him is purely for pragmatic reasons as he needs to accomplish his goals and other than that he sees him as he sees the rest of the people around him: only being nothing more than a means to an end.
