The first contact was bound to happen. The galaxy, let alone the universe was simply too big for just a singular species to develop intelligence in. Any delay in contact only meant a heightening of the eventual culture shock. In humanity's case, this "culture shock" meant the complete extinction of mankind as it had come to be known.
~ The Author first describing the Qu.

The Quhanim, better known as the Qu, is the main antagonist of the speculative evolution book All Tomorrows, written by Nemo Ramjet.

It is a sapient hive mind of extraterrestrial insectoid of advanced technology it possesses, who perceives itself as the rightful master of the universe and sought to remake it in its own images by warping other sapient species they considered unworthy into freakish, bizarre beasts wherever they went.

It was responsible for mutating humanity beyond any recognition and cruelly enslaving them before departing, only to eventually be defeated and subjugated by the very races they experimented on.

Actions and Characteristics[]

  • Its cruelty transcended mere physical conquest, it reshaped entire species, especially humanity, to satisfy its god complex and sadistic impulses. Unlike other villainous species, the Qu didn't just enslave or kill; it dehumanizes and twisted its victims' very identities. Like the Colonials, that were in states of perpetual, conscious suffering—never with a chance to be free or to have mercy. This level of sadism, where the Qu left its creations aware of their agony, is indicative of a psychopathic desire not merely to dominate but to humiliate and psychologically torture, making it the most heinous and vile being in All Tomorrows (and one of the most heinous and vile beings in fiction as a whole).
  • It has the most influence in the entire novel, do to countless civilizations that where psychologically, biologically, and culturally subjugate by them. It shapes life forms across star systems, reshaping entire species to suit their distorted view of superiority, leaving planets forever marked by its presence, shaping the very fabric of life, rendering their victims' lives an ongoing reminder of the merciless rule of the Qu.
  • It has an extremely high level of intelligence, to say the least, allowing it to manipulate life on both the macro and micro level: altering genetics, psychology, and societal structures with almost godlike precision. Its technologies and the genetic manipulation capabilities have already surpassed those of other advanced species, showing exceptional skill in the field of science, psychology, and strategy. The Qu's intellect is what makes it a physical, mental, and existential threat — it can outmaneuver, outthink, and overpower any civilization that dares resist.
  • It is the strongest antagonist in the novel. As a hive mind for tech use, having ships and genetic manipulation tools, that's a degree of power that makes any opposition pointless. Unlike all other known advanced civilizations, the Qu is able to wipe out entire species, reshape biological and psychological characteristics of any life form, or force entire civilizations into fates worse than death. This also means that they don't suffer from moral agency issues and thus not a hostile species (which would disqualify them from TUE). Their dominance over life forms across countless galaxies cements it as the most powerful force in All Tomorrows, capable of enslaving entire species without challenge.

Trivia[]

  • Due to the heinous atrocities the Qu had committed against the humanity, the Qu are considered by many to be one of the most abhorrent, revolting and depraved villains in all of fiction alongside Judge Holden and AM.
