Shio and Asahi's Father is one of two overarching antagonists (alongside his father) of the Happy Sugar Life psychological horror manga. He was the abusive husband and father of Yūna Kōbe and Asahi and Shio, who has terrorized his family for decades before the storyline's events to the point where his wife had to kill him for it and even through he is dead, he still haunts the series as his family percieve him as a demon and his actions kickstarted his daughter Shio's fated encounter with Sato, whose obsession with her takes a dangerous turn.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- Despite not having killed anybody or having many victims, he is the most heinous character in the series as he goes far beyond being a standard abuser by repeatedly raping Yūna, leaving his family penniless after getting his father's inheritance (who's death he celebrated) and outright torturing his own children. His horrific actions are explored in clear detail and have a huge impact on the storyline and unlike Sato or her aunt, his actions aren't out of a misguided attempt at finding love, but at the pure expense of deriving pleasure.
- Despite only appearing in flashbacks and hallucinations in the present, he is the most influential antagonist (alongside Satō's aunt) as his abuse led to his entire family's hardships as his wife would become mentally broken and become an abuser herself thanks to her influence and kept Asahi and Shio apart by keeping the former and torturing him for several years. The decision that Shio made of running away led her to meet Sato, which makes him responsible for the actions and crimes Sato would commit in order to protect Shio from the people she percieve as a threat to her and the finale of the manga, where Asahi fears that Sato is being remade in Shio's body, which is entirely true.
- Despite his utter lack of intelligence and resources (especially in comparison to villains like his father and the Princess Imperial Manager who are wealthier than him), he has managed to remain a threat to his family through sheer intimidation, even being viewed by them in the present as a demon.
- Unlike Satō and her aunt, he is completely irredeemably evil with absolutely no redeeming qualities, while being even worse than his own father who is already a greedy extortionist. The closest thing he has to a Pure Evil prevention is coming from an unloving and broken family which could've turned him into who he is in the present, but isn't given much detail and either way it would not excuse his horrific crimes in the present.
