The Conjuring Universe is a shared universe largely centered around the cases of Ed and Lorraine Warren first beginning in 2013 with the aptly-named The Conjuring. From there, the series branched out into spin-off films starring antagonists like Annabelle and Valak.

The demon using the Annabelle doll as a vessel, Malthus has murdered several people in its origin films and attempts to steal the souls of the films' protagonists. However, Malthus lacks the sheer power that Valak wields such as how the Demon Nun is nearly immune to holy relics and in The Nun II, Valak manages to regain its angelic powers making it a global threat.
