The End is the overarching antagonist of Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, serving as the main antagonist of Sonic Frontiers, and its update The Final Horizon.
It is a sadistic, godlike entity that prior to the events of the series, went around the galaxies and destroyed an indescribable amount of planets, all with no known motivation aside from considering themselves as supreme. It was then sealed by Crane thousands of years before the events of Sonic Frontiers, before manipulating Sonic the Hedgehog into releasing it by taking advantage of his desire to allow everything to have free will so it can destroy all of existence, before being stopped by Sonic and his allies.
In Japanese, Hōchū Ōtsuka provided its male voice while Gara Takashima provided its female one. In English, it is voiced by Mike Pollock for its male voice and Cindy Robinson for its female voice.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- It is one of the most heinous villains in the entire Sonic the Hedgehog franchise as its ultimate goal is to annihilate planets and then destroy all of existence to simply prove itself as supreme, which is something only villains such as Mephiles, by extension Solaris, and Erazor Djinn have ever tried to do. Even then, the destructive scale of this goal means The End still easily stands out in heinousness.
- While the Japanese dub gave it some redeeming qualities such as being an extremist and having some honor, they were minor and don't really get in the way of it.
- It is one of the most powerful beings to ever grace the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, with it being able to destroy entire planets in the matter of seconds, not to mention it being capable of creating a blast so big, it could destroy all of existence in one explosion, at the cost of it sacrificing itself to do so. It also is the only villain the franchise powerful enough to even make Super Sonic need a power up.
- It is highly manipulative, with it deceiving Sonic into thinking it was an ally so that he would "break the locks between reality" so that it could finally be free to consume everything. Not to mention this act also caused Sonic to be completely corrupted by Cyber Energy, which lead him to be in a state which could only be considered dead, leading the End to be one of the few characters to successfully kill Sonic after Mephiles the Dark.
- It is the most influential villain to come out of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. With it being revealed through flashbacks that it was the cause of the Chaos Emeralds coming to Earth, meaning that it retroactively kickstarted the events of the entire series and caused the rise of many villains, including the Big Bad of the series Dr. Eggman himself.
