Unicron is the overarching antagonist of the Transformers Aligned continuity, primarily the overarching antagonist of Transformers: Prime. Unicron was one of two primordial beings alongside his brother, Primus. While Primus desired creation and believed all life was sacred and equal, Unicron cared for nothing but himself, as he saw all life beneath him and desired to eradicate it. The brothers battled for millenniums until Unicron was eventually defeated and rendered dormant, his body becoming the basis for Earth. For millenniums, Unicron lied in a dormant state until his eventual awakening in the modern day. Awake once more, Unicron desired to free himself from his planetary form and continue to eradicate all life in the universe.
He was voiced by John Noble, who also voiced Scarecrow in Batman: Arkham Knight.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- Despite Cybertronian legends labeling Unicron the "Bringer of Chaos" and harbinger of destruction, Unicron has a clear moral agency and personality, as he came to the conclusion all life was beneath him on his own accords. Unicron earned those titles because he would go forth to devour several planets and attempted to eradicate all life before being stopped by Primus.
- He's easily the most heinous villain, since he is a primordial being that has destroyed countless planets in his pursuit to eradicate all "lower lifeforms".
- Despite not being the primary antagonist in the series (that being Megatron), Unicron was the most influential and is responsible for starting the entire series. It was his battle with Primus that lead Primus to create the original 13 primes in order to defeat Unicron. This laid the foundation for the eventual birth of Cybertronians (including Megatron), as Primus sacrificed his life and became Cybertron, the home planet of all Cybertronians. While Unicron's body was slowly encased by cosmetic material, leading to the creation of Earth and humanity.
- Because his body is integrated into the Earth's core, removing or destroying him would also mean the destruction of Earth.
- His blood is Dark Energon, a corrupting and hazardous substance capable of necromancy. Dark Energon reanimates deceased Cybertronians as Terrorcons, mindless zombies that only desire destroying everything around them. His blood has been used in different ways throughout the war with disastrous effects:
- Megatron used it to poison Cybertron and rendered the planet uninhabitable, leading to the Great Exodus and spreading the war across the galaxy.
- It brought the Decepticon ship, The Nemesis to life when Megatron converted it's fuel source to Dark Energon.
- His blood combined with imperfect Synthetic-Energon created a "vampire-like" Terrorcon plague. To which, the only solution was to isolate the infected on Cybertron's uninhabited moon.
- After Megatron's death, Megatron's mind was tethered to Unicron, allowing Unicron to possess Megatron's corpse and attempt to destroy the Allspark.
- He's easily the most dangerous antagonist as Unicron's awakening alone caused multiple global natural disasters and should he free himself completely, it will lead to the extinction of all terrestrial life. Something he sadistically remarked he would personally enjoy.
- It took the combined efforts of the Autobots and Megatron to incapacitate Unicron and return him to slumber once more. The result of which, reverted Optimus to his pre-Prime state and shaped the plot of Season 2.
