Valak, otherwise known as the Nun, is the main antagonist of The Conjuring Universe.

Actions and Characteristics[]

Valak was once an angel in Heaven who rebelled alongside Lucifer before being condemned to Hell.
Valak is one of the most powerful supernatural beings in the Conjuring shared universe with a plethora of supernatural abilities such as an intense version of demonic possession as seen in Maurice who remained possessed until Ed and Lorraine Warren performed an exorcism on him.
It is impervious to most holy objects such as crucifixes. However, Valak's invulnerability is not absolute as it was easily overpowered by the Blood of Christ.
Despite first appearing in The Conjuring 2, Valak was always present. In The Conjuring, Valak was the demon that was exorcised out of Maurice. In Annabelle Creation, Valak is seen lurking in the shadows of an old photograph. It is also implied that Valak was assisting Malthus when it tried to weaken Janice enough to possess her.
The only way to defeat Valak aside from the Blood of Christ is by identifying it by name.
