William Afton is the main antagonist of the 2023 film Five Nights at Freddy's.
He is a sadistic serial killer who, back in the 1980's, had lured several children into a backroom of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria and proceeded to kill them off before stuffing their bodies inside of the animatronic entertainers that performed at the restaurant, leading them to becoming possessed and for William to use them in order to continue to up his body count.
He was portrayed by Matthew Lillard.
Actions and Characteristics[]
- He is easily the most heinous and evil character in the film, with him having mercilessly killed several children before proceeding to trick their reanimated bodies into helping him, and proceeding to use them to kill people. He also ropes his own daughter Vanessa into helping out in his killing sprees and when she rebelled against him, would proceed to stab her without so much as a second thought, showing absolutely no remorse for any of his actions.
- He's the most influential antagonist in the film, as he was the one to set off the main conflict by not only kidnapping and then killing Michael's brother Garrett, but he would also be the one to send Michael to Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, making him responsible for a majority of the film's events.
- He is the most powerful individual antagonist in the film, with him being the former owner of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, as well as having full control over the animatronics before they found out the truth behind who had killed them.
- Despite Matthew Lillard's hammy performance, William is still played completely seriously by the narrative, with none of his comedy ever doing anything to detract from his villainy.
